Easy Halloween Recipes from Get Away Today

UPDATED OCTOBER 2024. Have you ever experienced Halloween time at the Disneyland Resort? Or maybe you’ve done Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World? Both coasts are so fun and festive! Disney goes all out decorating for their Halloween celebrations when you can see favorite characters dressed in their costumes, and Disney villains out in the park.

But, maybe the best part about Halloween at Disney are the yummy Halloween treats that pop up throughout the parks this time of year. Special goodies include pumpkin flavored muffins topped with cream, Mickey Halloween cookies, hot caramel apple cider, pumpkin cheesecake, and of course (our favorite) - all the beautifully spookily decorated (and delicious) Halloween caramel apples!

To bring some of Disney’s Halloween Time Magic into your home this season, we have gathered some super easy Halloween recipes from our Get Away Today team to recreate classic theme park treats and put our own little twist on some new ones.

Disney Halloween Apples Tutorial

Here is exactly what you’ll need to create these Disney Halloween Candy Apples!

Jack Skellington Apples

Mickey Pumpkin Apples
  • Caramel apples
  • Marshmallows
  • White chocolate
  • Orange sugar
  • Dark chocolate
  • Decorating bottle or cake piping tip

Here is how to make your own Disney Halloween Candy Apples at home.

We started with caramel apples from our local candy store. If you prefer to dip your own apples in caramel, then just make sure your caramel is cooled and set before you start decorating. You may even want to leave your apples in the fridge overnight to make sure that the chocolate doesn't melt off.

Jack Skellington Apples
  1. Melt white chocolate slowly in the microwave (30 second intervals, and stir each time, until smooth).
  2. Dip apples in chocolate until completely covered. Let the excess drip.
  3. Place on wax paper or parchment paper and let cool.
  4. Melt dark chocolate slowly in the microwave (30 second intervals, and stir each time, until smooth).
  5. Pour melted chocolate in a decorating bottle.
  6. Draw the Jack Skellington face, and then let cool until set.

Mickey Pumpkin Apples
  1. Cut a little bit off of one side of your marshmallows and attach the exposed sticky part to your apples to create Mickey ears.
  2. Secure the marshmallows with toothpicks. Just remember to pull these toothpicks out when you cut and eat your apple!
  3. Melt white chocolate slowly in the microwave (30 second intervals and stir each time, until smooth).
  4. Dip apples in chocolate until completely covered. Let the excess drip.
  5. While the chocolate is still warm, sprinkle orange sugar over the entire dipped apple.
  6. Place on wax paper or parchment paper and let cool.
  7. Melt dark chocolate slowly in the microwave (30 second intervals, and stir each time, until smooth).

Minnie Mouse Halloween Cookies

To brew up a batch of your own Minnie Mouse Halloween Cookies, you will need:

These Minnie Mouse Oreo Cookies for Halloween are so easy to make you can call in your little witches and magicians to let them help. Their cookies might not look like they belong on Pinterest, but the experience of making them together is much better than magazine-worthy results.

Open the package of Double Stuffed Oreos and Mini Oreos. Pull the two sides of the mini cookies away from each other and scrape (or lick) off the frosting.

Slide the little round cookies into a full size Oreo. Arrange them so that they look like Minnie Mouse ears. Isn't it cute? Continue adding ears to each of the cookies, until you have enough.

Line a baking sheet with wax paper. You don't really have to cook them, but the sheet is handy for when the chocolate needs to set up. Get your little decorating pearls ready. Place a cup of orange melting chocolates into a microwave safe bowl. Melt the chocolate for about 30 seconds. Stir. Melt it again for 30 seconds. Stir. If the chocolate needs a little bit more time, you can do an additional 20 seconds. The trick with melting chocolate is to not overcook it. If you cook it too long, the chocolate gets hard and lumpy.

Dip the bottom half of the Minnie Mouse Oreo Cookies for Halloween into the melted chocolate. Let the excess drip off and then lay the cookie flat on the wax paper. Quickly place the decorating pearls onto the soft chocolate. The pearls make Minnie's dress look like Minnie! She can really pull off those polka dots. Continue dipping the Oreos until you have covered each of the little Minnie Mouse cookies.

Get the heart shaped decorating sprinkles out. You can select just orange hearts, or I thought afterwards that I could have used purple ones too! Wouldn't that be cute?! Place a dot of soft chocolate onto the top right side of the cookie. Then, lay the pointed part of a heart on one side of the dot. Add a second heart on the opposite side to make a bow. It's really just not Minnie Mouse without a bow!

When all of your Minnie Mouse Oreo Cookies are accessorized, you are finished. Pair them with a glass of cold milk and you are set to have a pretty wicked snack.

Mickey Halloween Cupcakes

These easy Mickey Halloween Cupcakes are ear-ily awesome. Sweet candy corn frosting with chocolate Oreo Mickey Mouse ears will have your family screaming for more this spooktacular holiday season.

To brew up a batch of your own Mickey Halloween Cupcakes, you will need:

Bake a batch of your favorite cupcakes. I chose chocolate flavor because I love how it pairs with buttercream frosting. The fudge chocolate cake mix is always a scream. I chose the silver foil cupcake liners, because I feel like they present best with chocolate cake. Sometimes the paper cupcake liners get a little bit washed out with the dark cake inside of them.

While your cupcakes cool, make a batch of buttercream frosting. Our favorite buttercream frosting is made with:
  • 1 pound salted cream butter
  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of real vanilla
Blend the above ingredients together until the frosting is smooth, light and creamy. Taste it to make sure it has enough sweetness.

Separate the frosting into three dishes. You need a varied amount of frosting in each bowl. The orange frosting is the bottom layer on the cupcakes, so you need the most of that color and the least of the white frosting that makes the tip of the candy corn.

Color the orange and yellow frosting with food coloring. You can make orange frosting by mixing yellow and red together. Use about 2-3 drops of yellow per drop of red.

Place the orange frosting into a piping bag that has been fitted with a round tip. We used the medium tip, but the large one would be great as well! Pipe the frosting in a circle starting on the outside of the cake and rotating towards the center.

Then, do the same with the yellow frosting. The goal is to make it look like candy corn. You can do two layers of each frosting color to get a nice cone shaped frosting candy corn.

Then, finish the frosting with a white frosted tip. It should come to a point at the top.

Place two cookies onto the candy corn frosting mound to transform it into Mickey Mouse. Push them in just far enough that they stick to the frosting and don't droop. It is easiest to place both ears in at the same time, so the cupcake doesn’t move around under the pressure.
