Get Away Today - A Season for Giving

In the fall of 2018, North Ogden City in Utah experienced the loss of their esteemed Mayor, Brent Taylor. Elected in 2013, Mayor Taylor had been serving his community for many years. Prior to his election, he served on City Council, and up until his death was an officer in the United States Army National Guard.

Mayor Taylor spent seven years serving in active duty for the Army National Guard, and was on his fourth deployment when he was killed in Afghanistan. He is survived by his wife, Jennie, and their seven young children.

Mayor Taylor was always known for his commitments to God, family and country. He set a standard of service that many aspire to. In an effort to live up to Mayor Taylor’s example, Get Away Today wanted to offer something to his wife and children to show the Taylor family that the community is mourning with them, and striving to live up to his standard of service and generosity.

In December - the season of giving, members of our Get Away Today team prepared vacation countdown chains for each of the seven Taylor children, along with personal notes of encouragement and support. Team members from Get Away Today had the opportunity to personally deliver the vacation goodies and letters and revealed to the Taylor family that Get Away Today was sending them on a surprise Disneyland® trip for Christmas. The Taylor family intended to travel to Disneyland® in 2019 between Mayor Taylor’s scheduled return date and his brother’s deployment date, so it was a privilege to give this well-deserving family a chance at making some memories together at the Happiest Place on Earth after this devastating loss of their husband and father.

Get Away Today worked with one of our valued hotel partners, Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance to ensure the Taylor family was welcomed and treated like VIPs. We are grateful for the opportunity we had to give back to Mayor Taylor’s family and to have the help of our wonderful long standing partnerships in Southern California in doing so.
