If you love Disneyland Resort, cultural traditions and Disney food, you’re in the right place for all the Lunar New Year finds!
Disney Lunar New Year is a long established tradition at Disney California Adventure Park and we’re here to make sure you enjoy every minute of it during your Disneyland vacation.
Get our 7 best tips for the 6 Tips for Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure heading your way January 17 - February 16, 2025. Plus, check out other festivals happening throughout the year at Disneyland Resort.
Tip #1 Enjoy the Freebies
There are so many Lunar New Year events and activities that are included with your theme park admission.
Some of our favorite freebies include:
- Live music and entertainment throughout the park, especially Paradise Gardens
- Character meet and greets with favorites like Mulan and Mushu
- Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession
Tip #2 Bring the Kids
As we mentioned in the first tip, there are lots of free Lunar New Year experiences included in your theme park admission. And there are activities for all ages. In addition to the regular rides, some special options for kids only happen during Lunar New Year.
We love the appearances by our favorite Disney characters like Mickey and Minnie in traditional Korean clothing, Mulan and Mushu and sometimes you can spot the three little pigs, Turning Red characters and more. Be sure to check the Disneyland app for the most up to character meet and greet options.
Another favorite is the arts and crafts areas throughout the celebration. Color and craft Lunar New Year decorations you can take home. Or add your wishes for the new year to the Lunar New Year Wishing Wall—both are also free.
Tip #3 Get a Sip and Savor Pass
Now let’s get to the food! If you’re going to take advantage of the Marketplace menus, and you absolutely should, purchase a Sip and Savor Pass.
The Sip and Savor Passes are lanyards that come with six food credits. The credits allow you to redeem menu items (not including alcohol) from any of the Lunar New Year Marketplace kiosks and select other locations for one price.
All of the Marketplace kiosks are inspired by Asian cuisine. Here is a quick glance at some of the kiosks that guests can enjoy during Lunar New Year:
- Bamboo Blessings
- Longevity Noodle Co.
- Lucky 8 Lantern
- Prosperity Bao & Buns
- Red Dragon Spice Traders
- Wrapped with Love
To redeem your Sip and Savor Pass you’ll simply go to a kiosk and scan your Sip and Savor barcode for one menu item.
Sip and Savor Passes can be purchased at multiple locations throughout the park, but our favorite is the Embarcadero right across from The Little Mermaid. There is typically no line and you can get one quickly.
The Sip and Savor Pass is easy, convenient, and the remaining lanyard makes a great souvenir when you’re done. We recommend getting one at a time for your whole party and purchasing another once you’ve used all of your food credits.
Tip #4 Order in One Place
One of our best time saving tips for Lunar New Year is to order all of your food in one location. It’s super easy, but can save you a lot of time waiting in lines.
Near every Marketplace kiosk is one central queue for placing your food order. Then you’ll find a sign to the side of the Marketplace kiosk for picking up your food order. The good news is, you can order any of the festival menu items from any of the Marketplace ordering locations.
If you have a Sip and Savor Pass, it’s even easier, because you have the entire Lunar New Year Festival menu printed right on it. You’ll pay for everything in one place, then they’ll give you your receipt with all of the menu items you paid for.
Tip #5 Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession
Don’t miss Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession. The show kicks off as the sound of triumphant music fills the air and dozens of beautifully costumed performers populate the street. You won’t be able to take your eyes off this dazzling display featuring Mulan, some Disney pals and a spirited group of Chinese entertainers.
Be sure to plan your stay over at least one weekend day so you can enjoy this amazing entertainment that is often limited to weekends only.
Speaking of nighttime—you’ll want to stay for World of Color and see the beautiful Lunar New Year short, Hurry Home, that opens the nighttime spectacular.
Tip #6 Go For as Many Days and Nights as Possible
Spread out the fun for as long as you can! We always recommend purchasing at least a 3-Day Park Hopper ticket. That’s even more true during special events.
Trust us when we say that you’ll want enough time to sample all of the offerings. And don’t worry, if you purchase a Sip and Savor Pass, they’re good throughout the entire festival.
In addition to making sure you have enough time to eat all of the food items you want to try, we recommend visiting the Marketplace both during the day and the night.
During the day, you’ll find Instagram worthy wall backdrops on some of the kiosks. And at night, the signage is lit up for a whole new effect. The kiosks typically stay open until 8 or 9:00 pm, so just be sure to get your food picked up before closing time.
