Fishy Green Ale Recipe
Fishy Green Ale is not actually beer; it is a family friendly drink. When you try the Universal Studios version, you will notice that the drink has both mint and cinnamon. It is not nearly as sweet as the Butterbeer, so your teeth don't feel like they will rot out of your mouth as you sip it. That is a bonus! The underlying flavor is a mild melon. It is really unique. Of course, the most fun part of the beverage is the blueberry Bursting Boba Balls that hang out in the bottom of the cup. The "fish eggs" give a pop of flavor and are also really fun to suck up through a straw. Did you see these reusbale fat straws on Amazon? They're perfect for this drink and thick milkshakes.
I feel pretty confident that the Fishy Green Ale served at Harry Potter Land is way more tasty than the version from the books. We are lucky! You could serve this fun drink at a Harry Potter movie party, birthday celebration, class party, or even for a festive Halloween get together.
Fishy Green Ale Copycat Recipe:

- 1/2 cup Half and Half
- 2 cups Blueberry Bursting Boba Balls

Prepping Honeydew for Fishy Green Ale
Start by picking out a nice ripe honeydew melon. They are the easiest of the melon family to tell if it is ripe! Honeydew start with a white skin. As they begin to ripen, the skin turns more yellowish green. Here is a fun trick: Wipe off your thumb and clean any oil or moisture from the skin. Then, drag your thumb across the skin of the melon. If you hear a squeak, from the motion, then the melon is ripe and ready to use. It's pretty nifty! When the melon is sliced in half, the seeds should cling to the side of the melon. They are delicious!
Cut the honeydew melon in half. Clean the seeds and stringy stuff from the inside of the melon. Then, slice it into long strips. Cut the hard skin off of the back of each slice. Then, cut the slices into chunks that will fit easily into a blender.
I used one half of a medium honeydew. Cover the second half with cling wrap and store it in the fridge. Place the melon chunks into the blender. Blend it until the fruit is liquid.
Flavoring Fishy Green Ale
Then, add 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon and 3-4 drops of peppermint extract flavoring. Blend it again to spread the seasonings throughout the juice.
The honeydew juice with the cinnamon and peppermint is actually really yummy! I was seriously loving the smell. There should be about 3 cups of liquid.
Add 1/2 cup of half and half to the juice. Half and half is used in a lot of flavored soda drinks to make it "dirty." It gives a nice creamy texture to the honeydew juice.
Bursting Boba Ball Drink - Fishy Green Ale
Now for the fun part! Open a container of blueberry flavored Bursting Boba Balls. Boba Balls are little soft balls of flavored water. They kind of pop in your mouth when you bite on the skin of the ball. People use them in tea, on ice cream, in salads and, of course, in Green Fishy Ale! They look a whole lot like fish eggs! Good thing they taste better. I ordered mine on Amazon HERE. You can find them at Target online too!
Place a nice heaping scoop of Boba Balls into the bottom of each serving glass. I used a slotted spoon and let the excess juice drain off completely. Then pour Sprite into the glass. Fill it 1/3 of the way with the Sprite.
Fishy Green Ale - PopPop FizzFizz!
Fill the remainder of the glass with the honeydew melon juice. The mellon juice will foam up and bubble when it hits the Sprite in the glass. It makes the drink kind of like a magic potion! If you don't want the foamy texture, then combine 2 cups of Sprite with the 3 cups of honeydew melon juice and stir them together. Place the drink in the fridge for about an hour. The foam will settle. You can use a spoon to skim the top layer of bubbles from the juice. Then, serve it that way!
Sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon to the top of the drink to make it fancy. Be sure to slide a straw in as well for sipping up the boba balls! Fishy Green Ale is pretty mild and refreshing. It is a perfect treat for a warm day at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter...or for a day at home pretending you aren't a muggle!
