It’s laughter they’re after when Sulley, Mike, and the rest of the crew from Pixar Animation Studios’ “Monsters, Inc.” move into Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and let humans inside the factory for the first time.
What You Need to Know about Monsters, Inc. at Disney World

Monsters, Inc Land Rides at Walt Disney World
The news was shared during Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro, with a little help from Disney Legend Billy Crystal, took to the stage to reveal plans to build a living, breathing, and not-at-all-scary “Monsters, Inc.” inspired area.
Inside this new land you’ll be able to stroll the streets alongside some of your favorite monsters. And your laughter is much needed to power the city and keep it running!
Monsters, Inc Roller Coaster
Visit the factory itself and see the sights, hear the laughs and zoom through the building just like James P. Sullivan (a.k.a. Sulley) and Mike Wazowski — via a door!
If you’ve been dreaming of riding through the door vault since the movie was released in 2001, you’re not alone — Josh D’Amaro said, “You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”
While we wait for this and other attractions to join us at Walt Disney World, don’t forget these other Monsters, Inc experiences you can have now:
- Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, the interactive comedy show, at Magic Kingdom is not part of this new space but remains open.
- Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! Is open in California Adventure on the west coast—and while it resides in Hollywood Land, it is not part of this project.
Monsters, Inc Land Dining at Walt Disney World
Let’s eat! Trying out all the new food at Walt Disney World is one of our favorite pastimes, and our imaginations are going wild just thinking about what dishes we might find in the new Monsters, Inc Land at Walt Disney World.
Taking a look back at the two movies Monsters, Inc and Monsters University, there are two instances that might be used as inspiration for the new land:
- Sushi: In Monsters, Inc., Mike takes his girlfriend Celia to Harryhausen's, a sushi restaurant, where they order "shmoozles" before things go wrong with Boo's arrival. This scene is also featured in the Disneyland Resort attraction.
- Fear Tech Café: In Monsters University, we get a quick look at campus cafés with typical college food and drinks in a cafeteria style environment. Will we get to visit Fear Tech Cafe when this new land opens at Walt Disney World?
While we don’t know any specific dishes of food or drinks coming yet, our team came up with a few things we’d love to see in this new Monsters Inc area. Tell us what you think should make it on the menus!
- Monsters, Inc. Scream Canister souvenir sipper with a neon colored energy drink for those long days work in Monstropolis.
- Sulley’s Sushi Rolls with monster-sized sushi platter to share and a nod to Harryhausen's restaurant.
- Boo’s Sweet Treats shop showcasing a variety of colorful, kid-friendly desserts like cotton candy, cupcakes and cake pops. Wouldn’t that be adorable?
- A salad loaded with unique ingredients like multi-colored veggies and “tentacle” noodles.
While none of these have been announced, we sure think it’s fun to imagine the possibilities! Maybe even some Oozma Kappa Nachos topped with “slime” guacamole?
Monsters, Inc Land Shopping
We adore the Monsters, Inc merch you can already find in Disney Parks and online (like this popular Monsters University hat!), but we know Disney will come up with some amazing places to shop and score all your favorite Monsters, Inc gear.
A full collection of Mickey, or Monster ears, Monster plush options, spirit jerseys and more is expected. We know we’ll be screaming for joy when these are officially announced!
