There’s No Place Like Disneyland
When it comes to choosing between Universal Studios and Disneyland for first-timers, there is one obvious winner, and it is Disneyland.
When it comes to the rides and attractions within the parks, it's personal preference; some people will prefer Universal, and some will prefer Disney. But what really sets Disneyland apart is the fact that it has the Disney wow factor. The park is truly magical, and you get a special feeling as soon as you step through the gates. The staff goes above and beyond to get the Disney magic flowing- it's somewhat indescribable.
There are few places on earth like Disneyland. It's also a lot more popular than Universal, and that's not a coincidence; there's a reason it is so popular.

You Can’t Beat Disney
For those wanting to go to one of the [parks] during the holidays and are specifically looking for entertainment, Disneyland definitely has that and then some. You will likely see so much in a day that you will feel the excitement of knowing the next day will be just as packed.
Disneyland really is magical, and I recommend it over Universal for that alone, especially for first-timers. Going the other way can dull the magic of what both parks share. Going to Disney first means you get all the overwhelming excitement and joy of both parks as well as all the Disney-specific attractions on your first go around.
If you like going on rides or if Halloween is your favorite season, Universal is definitely the winner. It is much more thrilling, and all the scary actors and attractions in the fall are much more exciting than those at Disney. That said, it might not be as enjoyable for kids, so if you're traveling as a family, keep this in mind.
All in all, they are both great parks and have so much variety to offer, but in terms of your first time visiting, you can't beat Disney.

It’s All About Personal Preference
Universal Studios and Disneyland both offer unique experiences, so it really depends on what you're looking for. If you love classic Disney characters and want to be transported to a magical world of fairytales and princesses, then Disneyland is definitely the place for you. But Universal Studios is the better option if you're a movie lover who craves exciting rides based on your favorite films.
At the end of the day, it's all about personal preference and what you're most interested in experiencing. Both theme parks provide a fantastic and thrilling day out for the entire family. Do some research beforehand to determine which one suits your interests best.

Universal Studios Is More Immersive
I definitely recommend Universal Studios for someone going to a major theme park for the first time. Overall it's a far more immersive experience where you feel like you're actually stepping into different areas of the world.
There are so many universes in each area that it's bound to appeal to even someone picky about liking "mainstream" things. [Universal] also has a better variety of rides, from the "kiddie" to the more thrilling ones. It's a good introduction to the world of theme parks.
On the other hand, Disney has more of a niche appeal- to the point of even having "Disney Adults" who go that frequently. The rides are more enjoyable for someone who's already a huge Disney fan rather than just being about the ride itself.
The whole experience hinges on "Disney magic," so someone going to a theme park for the first time might find it overwhelming (in terms of Disney everywhere) and underwhelming in terms of the rides unless they're a huge fan already.

Universal Studios Is More Modern And Thrilling
If you're a first-timer deciding between Universal Studios and Disneyland, go with Universal Studios.
Not only does [Universal] offer thrilling rides and attractions that cater to all ages, but it also has a more modern and adventurous vibe compared to Disneyland's more classic and family-oriented atmosphere. Plus, there are plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in your favorite movies and TV shows at Universal Studios.
But don't get me wrong, Disneyland is still a magical experience [you] shouldn't miss if you have the chance. Ultimately, it all comes down to personal preference and what kind of experience you're looking for.
